After enjoying truly gorgeous weather, we awoke on our sixth day in Amsterdam to a grey rainy day. Luckily, we had planned for the weather.
After bundling up and grabbing our umbrellas we set out to track down what we thought was an Australian-South America restaurant for breakfast. We had perused their menu online the night before and we were looking forward to something a little different and very hardy for the cold wet day. While the food was good, it was not at all the menu listed online and was a bit overpriced. Not wanting to venture back out into the cold I enjoyed my yogurt, granola, and pouched pair while Ryan had an egg dish (that honestly I can’t remember now).

Since we had missed out on the zoo the previous day and the weather was still dry and sunny we decided to head back and spend the day surrounded by animals.
For breakfast we revisited Omelegg. (And we sat at the same table) Ryan had the Viking omelet and I decided to try something from their sweet menu. Never would I have thought to put figs, walnuts and maple syrup in an omelet but it is now my favorite way to eat an egg. And the accompanying assortment of fruit was a wonderfully refreshing start to the day.

After sleeping in a bit, we were still getting over the jet lag, Ryan and I headed off for a filling breakfast. Only a few blocks away was Omlegg, a restaurant that specialized in omlettes. A few bites in, both Ryan and I agreed it was definitely a place to go back later in the trip. Ryan had an omelette called the “Viking Farmer” and I enjoyed an omlette with mushrooms, bacon, and red peppers. Simple ingredients, but the quality was amazing and the eggs were more flavorful than American eggs.
