It’s been about a month since I shared with you my goals for 2017, so I thought I’d check back in and fill you in on my progress. Here we go!
2017 is going to be a good year. It’s going to be a good year. I recently saw this quote and I think it is a good summary to how I’m approaching 2017:
Be kind. Make art. Read good books. Take no shit.
(If anyone knows who that quote is from, please let me know) I’m going to make this the year where I accomplish my goals. I’m going to make 2017, my year.
So what are my goals? Well, they fall into a few categories:
I’m almost a week late with this post but I have a good excuse… Ryan and I were in Amsterdam over the New Year and just got back. Keep an eye out as I’m planning on posting a few blog posts and sharing some pictures. (If you follow me on instagram and twitter you may have seen a few but I will be posting some extras here.)
Over the years I’ve occasionally attempted New Year’s resolutions and have mostly failed at them. Very typically, I’ve done great for a few weeks and then stopped when I got too busy or it became too much of a chore to stick with it. So this year, I’m not setting resolutions but am going to share some goals and over the months I’ll check in on how I’m doing and essentially grade myself. This is partially inspired by Wil Wheaton’s Life Reboot.
So the goals for 2016 are:
2014 has come and gone, now I have to remind myself to write a 5 instead of a 4 at the end of the date. I’ve never been one for resolutions, but I do have some plans for this year.
One major plan is to vlog more. I realize that my last post in August was stating that I was going to get back to posting on a regular schedule. But I didn’t realize how much time running the show would take, and then my computer decided to kill my hard-drive. After the death of my computer in October I was unable to edit videos, and I just couldn’t bring myself to upload unedited videos with all the rambling I tend to do. Hopefully by next week I will have my new computer and be ready to post a new video. The plan is to do upload on a more regular basis and do some more informal vlogs.
The other plan is to get in better shape. When I was working backstage I never really had to think about exercise because my job was exercise enough. Some shows I sat around for 2 hours with 15 second intervals of activity and others were 2 hour marathons of constant activity. Now that I am sitting at a desk for most of the day, exercise needs to be something I think about. Crazy schedules the last few months has also contributed to poor eating habits that I need to kick to the curb. I don’t think my health has really started to suffer from both these lifestyle changes, but I want to turn things around before it gets too late.
The final plan, well not so much a plan but more of a hope, is to write a novel. The last two years I have worked shows during NaNoWriMo and quickly realized that doing both would be far too much. Instead of waiting til November, I am going to slowly work on one story that I’ve been itching to write for over a year. Depending on how quickly it goes I may attempt to write the other story that’s been bouncing around during NaNoWriMo. We shall see.
So here’s to 2015. A year to get back on track both for my health and creativity.
Welcome to 2014 everyone!
I’ve never been a big fan of New Year’s resolutions. Often New Years falls at an inconvenient time in my schedule to start a new routine. For example, right now I am in the middle of rehearsals for a show. This means my evenings are busy, not allowing me much free time to tackle new plans or a new routine.
However, I usually try to set goals for the year. This year, my goal is to post regular entries here as well as post vlog videos at least every other week on our youtube channel starting next week.
This year I want to continue learning ukulele. Practice yoga more often. Win NaNoWriMo. Attend GenCon. Play more games. And generally live life to it’s fullest (while still indulging myself in introverted days of netflix binging and cuddling on the couch).
Here’s hoping 2014 is awesome!
